4-year PhD Position, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain

Postdoc in Spain
4-year PhD Position: A 4-year fully funded PhD position is available at the Biology Department of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) under the supervision of Dr. Patri Alvarez-Campos. The research project, funded by the Spanish Research Council, focuses on uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms that synchronize reproduction in marine annelids of the Syllidae family using advanced molecular techniques.

4-year PhD Position on the Role of Pheromones in the Evolution of Reproduction in Marine Syllidae Annelids

Designation:

PhD Student

Research Area:

Evolution of reproductive biorhythms, Marine annelid biology, Molecular endocrinology

Location:

Biology Department, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Experience in wet and molecular lab work (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Basic bioinformatics skills.
  • Interest in annelid evolution and development.
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and ability to work in a dynamic research team.

Job Description:

The PhD project will explore the molecular and cellular basis of reproductive biorhythms in marine Syllidae annelids as part of the EVORHYTHM project. The research will utilize various methodologies, including bulk RNA sequencing, tandem mass spectrometry-based proteomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, and functional assays. The primary objective is to understand how environmental sensors and endocrine systems regulate reproductive capacities in these marine organisms.

The successful candidate will join a team that integrates traditional and cutting-edge technologies to address key evolutionary biology questions. This role provides excellent training in both laboratory techniques and bioinformatics, with a strong focus on collaborative work.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file including:

  • A motivation letter detailing their past and current research projects and their contributions.
  • A CV.
  • Contact details of 1-2 supervisors.

Please send the application to patricia.alvarez@uam.es.

Last Date to Apply:
