Postdoctoral Position: Electromagnetic Sensing: The University of Twente’s Chair of Nonlinear Solid Mechanics at the Faculty of Engineering Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral position focused on developing physics-based models to predict mechanical performance based on electromagnetic sensing behaviors in steel production processes.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Computational Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related fields with excellent grades.
  • Interest in modelling production processes.
  • Background in nonlinear solid mechanics, computational methods, materials science, and/or electromagnetism.
  • Strong programming skills.
  • High degree of responsibility and independence.
  • Exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
  • Proficiency in English (IELTS minimum score 6.5 or TOEFL-iBT minimum score 90).

Job Description:

The project involves:

  • Developing physics-based models for electromagnetic measurements of steel sheets across various grades in industrial production lines.
  • Enhancing models to account for dislocation density, phase distribution, and residual stresses affecting magnetic responses.
  • Reporting research during bi-weekly meetings and collaborating with an industrial partner.
  • Presenting findings at international scientific conferences and contributing to academic journal publications.
  • Mentoring MSc students on related projects.
