Job Description
The Cornell EASL group’s mission is to advance the study of cultural heritage objects using synchrotron x-ray techniques. The successful candidate will:
- Conduct original research in cultural heritage science using synchrotron techniques at CHESS.
- Collaborate with Cornell-based and external collections to design experiments.
- Develop and deliver educational content for students, museum professionals, and the general public.
- Support lab-based preparatory work and engage in proposal development.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline (required by start date).
- Experience with x-ray techniques (e.g., x-ray fluorescence microscopy, absorption spectroscopy, or diffraction).
- Strong record in cultural heritage research.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing and carrying out synchrotron x-ray experiments.
- Proficiency with scientific software for data analysis/control (e.g., Python, MATLAB, SPEC).
- Experience with lab-based analyses (e.g., SEM, Raman) and engagement with cultural heritage collections.
