Crops Scholarship for PhD Positions: The Building Opportunities for Lesser-known Diversity in Edible Resources (BOLDER) project is offering four PhD scholarships in the areas of Plant Science and Food Systems. The scholarships are open to citizens of Benin and Ghana and will be hosted at the University of Abomey-Calavi in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).

Eligibility/Qualification
- Citizens of Benin or Ghana
- MSc degree in plant sciences, plant breeding, food systems, value chain or related disciplines
- Not currently enrolled in another PhD program
- Proficiency in English and French is advantageous
Description
The BOLDER project aims to promote the use and value of nutritious but underutilized crops in West and East Africa. The successful PhD candidates will contribute to the project’s objectives through research in the following areas:
Plant Science:
- Genetic and phenotypic characterization of opportunity crops
- Identifying unique genotypes and breeding strategies for improving desirable traits
- Conducting performance evaluation of opportunity crops using the Triadic Comparisons of Technology Options (TRICOT) approach
Food Systems:
- Analyzing the opportunity crops value chain and marketing
- Exploring the nexus between traditional knowledge and broader political-economic factors affecting the development and promotion of opportunity crops in food systems
