Eligibility/Qualification
- A university degree equivalent to a European University Master’s degree or completed course requirements of at least 240 credit points (60 at second-cycle level).
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong background in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, or cell biology.
- Prior experience in wet lab work, particularly with methods in protein biochemistry and mitochondrial biology.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge or experience in protein quality control and proteostasis.
- Experience with molecular cloning, genetic engineering, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.
- Familiarity with using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system.
Job Description
The PhD project focuses on the quality control of mitochondrially-encoded proteins, essential for cellular energy homeostasis and cellular functionality. The successful candidate will:
- Participate in research activities addressing mitochondrial protein quality control (PQC) mechanisms in health, ageing, and disease.
- Work primarily in the lab of Andreas Kohler and engage with diverse researchers across the Department.
- Have the opportunity to contribute to a significant area of medical science with implications for understanding ageing and disease.
