Postdoctoral Position in Sustainable Energy Materials: ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to outstanding, highly motivated scientists who wish to contribute to advancing technologies that drive the clean energy transition. This position focuses on developing novel strategies to overcome critical resource bottlenecks in energy devices, particularly in recyclable energy conversion technologies such as electrolyzers, batteries, and solar cells.

Eligibility/Qualification:

Candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally recognized Ph.D. (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in one or more of the following fields:

  • Electrochemistry
  • Chemistry
  • Thin Film Fabrication Processes
  • Optoelectronics

Candidates should have proven expertise in at least several of the following domains:

  • Strong background in materials science
  • Synthesis of metals, metal oxides, organic, and perovskite semiconductors
  • Experience in water/CO2 electrolysis from catalyst to reactor level
  • Electrode fabrication and membrane integration
  • Experience in batteries and solar cells
  • Experience in electrodialysis
  • High-throughput experimentation

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be part of the CO2 Mitigation Accelerated by Photons (CO2MAP) Group, led by Prof. Dr. F. Pelayo García de Arquer. The main responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing recyclable energy conversion devices, including electrolyzers, batteries, and solar cells.
  • Developing active strategies to enhance the recyclability of energy devices through novel materials and component designs.
  • Innovating passive strategies for extracting and purifying critical raw materials from non-standard feedstocks, such as metals from seawater and wastewater streams.
  • Utilizing advanced fabrication and characterization techniques at the intersection of materials science, electrochemistry, optoelectronics, and engineering.
