The Thomas Lab explores novel mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation through a combination of biochemistry, cell biology, and genomics approaches, with a particular focus on the role of the free radical signaling molecule nitric oxide (NO) in influencing mRNA, histone, and DNA methylation.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • Prior research lab experience
  • Ability to independently design and analyze research projects, with excellent manuscript/grant writing and communication skills
  • Protein and DNA/RNA handling experience
  • Genome editing skills
  • Preferred: Experience with bioinformatics, genome editing, high-throughput sequencing, HPLC-MS, mass spectrometry, and proteomics

Job Description

  • Conduct cell culture studies, cell-free kinetic and structural studies
  • Perform DNA/mRNA sequencing
  • Mentor graduate students
  • Participate in manuscript and grant writing/editing
  • Maintain records of experiments
  • Present research findings at scientific meetings
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars
