Postdoctoral or PhD Student Positions: Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) invites applications for two fully funded positions (Postdoctoral or PhD) in the field of Biophysics and/or Chemical/Synthetic Biology. The positions are based in the Lemke Lab at the Institute of Molecular Physiology, Faculty of Biology, JGU. This research focuses on the study of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) involved in vital cellular processes. The positions offer an interdisciplinary research environment with access to cutting-edge microscopy and bioengineering techniques.

Two Fully Funded Postdoctoral or PhD Student Positions in Biophysics and/or Chemical/Synthetic Biology

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow / PhD Student

Research Area: Biophysics, Chemical/Synthetic Biology

Location: Mainz, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A successfully completed scientific university degree.
  • For Postdoctoral applicants: A doctorate in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in one or more of the following areas: physical sciences, engineering, advanced fluorescence techniques, biochemistry, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or chemical biology.
  • Candidates with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, or computational sciences and a willingness to learn cell biology/biochemistry are encouraged to apply.
  • Interdisciplinary research interest and motivation to apply quantitative approaches to biological problems.
  • Excellent proficiency in English.

Job Description:

  • Plan, prepare, acquire, execute, and supervise research projects.
  • Develop new methods and concepts in chemical/synthetic biology and/or biophysics.
  • Independently prepare scientific publications and present findings at international conferences.
  • Conduct high-end microscopy experiments and computational analysis.
  • Engage in the interdisciplinary and international research environment of the JGU and IMB Mainz.
