The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute at University College London (UCL) is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral research fellow dedicated to advancing research in neuroprotection related to ischaemic stroke. This position is funded by a three-year British Heart Foundation grant.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in Neurological Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, Biology, Cell Biology, or Molecular Biology.
  • Strong background and extensive experience in conducting in vivo rodent studies using surgical techniques (both non-recovery and recovery).
  • Both EU and non-EU researchers are encouraged to apply.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will:

  • Investigate ways to protect the brain from injury due to ischaemia-reperfusion injury.
  • Focus specifically on the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT signalling pathway.
  • Evaluate the neuroprotective effect of a novel UCL-developed compound using an in vivo Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) stroke model.
  • Collaborate closely with both basic and clinical scientists to establish associated pathways involved in the PI3K/AKT pathway in stroke.
