Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Completed Master’s degree with subsequent PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or related disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience with neutron spectroscopy (e.g., INS, QENS, NSE) and structural characterization of materials (e.g., powder diffraction).
  • Proficient in material synthesis and complementary characterization techniques (e.g., IR).
  • Preferred Additional Qualifications:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Research background in energy materials (e.g., fuel cells, batteries, heterogeneous catalysts, interfaces).
  • Proficiency in high-level programming languages, such as Python.
  • Experience supervising graduate students and responsibilities in laboratory or instrument settings.

Job Description:

  • Conduct synthesis and physicochemical characterization of energy materials or representative model systems.
  • Characterize dynamical and structural properties of energy materials, focusing on neutron spectroscopy, complemented by other experimental techniques or theoretical simulations.
  • Engage in hands-on experiments at large-scale facilities and contribute to the design and construction of instruments and/or sample environments.
  • Establish cooperation projects with associated institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
  • Supervise MSc and BSc students, present research results at conferences, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Represent JCNS-3 in project meetings and international conferences to enhance networking opportunities.
