Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required: Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Skills:
  • Expertise in nanofiber fabrication techniques (e.g., forcespinning, electrospinning, melt-blowing, etc.).
  • Strong background in structure-property relationships of polymer and composite materials.
  • Knowledge of advanced materials characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, rheology, etc.).
  • Strong chemistry background, particularly in polymer chemistry or surface chemistry.
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.

Job Description:

The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for:

  • Designing, fabricating, and characterizing nanofiber-based membranes tailored for specific applications.
  • Analyzing structure-property relationships in composite nanofiber systems.
  • Leading research projects and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Preparing and publishing research findings in high-impact journals.
  • Contributing to proposal writing for funding opportunities.
  • Ensuring lab safety and maintaining research documentation in compliance with Rice University policies.
