PhD in Computational Modeling of Semantic Networks: The Centre for the Psychology of Learning and Experimental Psychopathology (CLEP) at KU Leuven and the Rehabilitation Research Center (REVAL) at UHasselt, Belgium, are offering a joint PhD scholarship focusing on the computational modeling of semantic networks to predict fear behavior differences. This research aims to develop individualized approaches for fear extinction through a better understanding of semantic networks.

KU Leuven and UHasselt, Belgium
Eligibility/Qualification
Requirement | Details |
---|---|
Degree | Master’s degree in behavioral sciences (preferably psychology with a quantitative focus), physics, or engineering |
Skills | Excellent English communication and writing skills |
Experience | Prior experience in mathematical modeling and experimental research |
Interest | Theoretical interest in learning psychology or semantics is desirable |
Software Knowledge | Commitment to open science; experience with R is an asset |
Description
The PhD project involves investigating how individual semantic networks influence fear learning and extinction processes. By integrating insights from fear conditioning, semantic cognition, and network science, this project aims to personalize exposure treatments for anxiety-related disorders. The candidate will conduct experimental studies, estimate individualized semantic networks, and explore their relationship with fear generalization, extinction, and reinstatement.
