Scholarship & Position Description
Both positions offer an inspiring academic environment within the Austrian Cluster of Excellence (qAustria), the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ), and the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics (VDSP):
- Position 1 (Project Q4-BIO): Focuses on developing quantum tools and exploring quantum physics with neutral biomolecules (e.g., cold beam sources, superconducting nanowire detectors, quantum coherent beam splitters, and spin physics).
- Position 2 (Project V-QUTE): Focuses on pushing the limits of matter-wave interferometry and macroscopicity with massive nanoparticles (e.g., nanoparticle cooling, cluster beam sources, UV laser systems, and novel interferometer designs).

Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Background: A completed Masterโs degree or Diploma in Physics (or equivalent qualification allowing PhD enrollment at the University of Vienna by the start date). Candidates from structured 4-year Bachelor’s programs are also considered.
- Hands-on Laboratory Skills: Extended hands-on experimental experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Molecular beam sources
- (Cryogenic) ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems
- Superconducting nanowire detectors / Nanoparticle cooling & cluster science
- Advanced optics, laser systems, and frequency conversion
- Mass spectrometry or matter-wave research
- Technical Aptitude: Proven skills in experimental design, construction, and laboratory troubleshooting.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent command of written and spoken English.
