Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry: The University of Bath is seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a groundbreaking research project in synthetic inorganic chemistry, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. This role will focus on developing innovative strategies for achieving “precious metal-like” redox catalysis using main group elements, driven by sustainability and academic curiosity.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in chemistry or a closely related discipline, or be close to completion.
  • Essential experience in the synthesis and manipulation of air-sensitive compounds.
  • Strong track record in molecular inorganic synthesis is required.
  • Experience with NMR spectroscopy is essential; familiarity with other techniques (XRD, CV, EPR) is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will work on:

  • Designing, synthesising, and investigating main group Lewis acids with redox-active scaffolds.
  • Developing new catalytic mechanisms as alternatives to traditional reductive elimination steps.
  • Coordinating research with external project collaborators.
  • Assisting in the wider management of the Scott research group, including co-supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

This position is offered for a duration of up to 24 months, with a potential start date of August 1, 2025, under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Scott.
