Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Microbiology: The Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join an interdisciplinary research group led by Prof. Kevin Foster. The project focuses on understanding bacterial competition in the mammalian gut and seeks to identify communities that can inhibit bacterial pathogens’ growth, alongside exploring how vaccination influences these competitions.

Research Area

Microbiology with a focus on bacterial interactions in the mammalian gut.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in microbiology or a related discipline (or close to completion).
  • Extensive experience in bacterial culturing, particularly anaerobic cultures, and mouse microbiome studies.
  • Proven track record of publications in relevant areas.

Job Description

The post-holder will be responsible for:

  • Managing their own academic research and administrative activities.
  • Conducting experimental work with anaerobic gut bacteria and human gut bacterial pathogens.
  • Applying both in-vitro and in-vivo germ-free methods.
  • Providing guidance to less experienced researchers in the group.
