Eligibility/Qualification

  • MSc degree with a thesis graded A/B (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Experience in microalgae cultivation, bioreactor technology, genomics, and microscopy is advantageous.
  • Commitment to high-quality laboratory work, scientific excellence, and independent research.
  • Must comply with Nord University’s residency requirements.
  • Good command of English (both written and oral) is required; proficiency in Norwegian (or a Scandinavian language) is an advantage.

Job Description

The PhD candidate will focus on:

  • Developing a thesis based on new laboratory-scale bioreactor technologies.
  • Investigating life history and reproductive strategies of diatoms as part of a research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
  • Producing strategies for improved strains and selection techniques to enhance efficiency in microalgae cultivation.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and collaboratively with other researchers.
  • Develop a final project outline and progress plan within three months of appointment.
  • Regularly report on research progress and adhere to doctoral program standards.
