Research Area

This fellowship is housed within the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University, focusing on cattle breeding research with an emphasis on genetic studies derived from advanced phenotyping technologies.

Location

C.F. Møllers Allé 3, Bldg. 1130, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Relevant Master’s degree (120 ECTS) with experience in Animal Breeding.
  • Proficiency in data handling software (e.g., R, SAS, Python, Unix Shell).
  • Experience with genetic software (e.g., DMU, F90, AIREML) is advantageous.
  • Background in livestock data is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.

Description

The PhD project aims to leverage extensive phenotypic data generated by the CowFIT 3D camera system, along with additional phenotypes from the Danish Cattle Database. The objective is to develop management and genetic tools that enhance the productive lifespan and efficiency of dairy cows, contributing to sustainable agriculture in Denmark. The project will utilize advanced statistical methods and cutting-edge genetic models, focusing on traits such as calving weight, energy balance, and other management traits.
