Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s degree in biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, physiology, genetics, or a related discipline.
- Experience in diatom culturing, single-cell DNA isolation and amplification, phylogenetic, and sterol analyses is highly desirable, but not required.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, especially in fieldwork settings.
Job Description
The successful candidate will focus on:
- Identifying the composition and distribution of sterols among various diatom species.
- Investigating genomes for positive selection related to sterol innovations.
- Analyzing sterol functions and genetic networks via comparative transcriptomics.
The role involves both fieldwork in East Africa and laboratory research in Switzerland, with opportunities for visits to collaborating institutions such as the University of Arkansas and Ghent University, fostering the development of an independent research profile.
