Fully Funded PhD Position (RTG BioBuild): Applications are invited for a fully funded, full-time PhD position for a highly motivated doctoral researcher (m/f/d) within the DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) “BioBuild – Bio-inspired Materials and Systems for Responsive Building Components.” The position is offered for four years, starting April 1, 2026, with full support toward obtaining a doctoral degree. The research is embedded in a strong interdisciplinary environment involving the University of Stuttgart and the University of Freiburg.

Eligibility / Qualification
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field
- Strong background in façade design and engineering, environmental simulation, and digital fabrication
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary research
- Experience in design or engineering offices is an advantage
- Very good command of English; knowledge of German is beneficial but not required
Job Description
- Conduct doctoral research on the conception, development, and evaluation of bio-inspired responsive building envelope systems
- Work within an interdisciplinary research team alongside architects, engineers, biologists, and chemists
- Actively participate in the structured doctoral training program of the RTG BioBuild
- Collaborate across institutions and contribute to joint research activities and publications
