Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): This fully funded PhD scholarship focuses on utilizing MXenes for detecting and removing toxic metals from marine ecosystems, aiming to develop real-world applications for environmental health and sustainability.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): MXenes for Toxic Metal Sampling, Sensing, and Removal from Marine Environments

Designation

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

FieldDetails
Research AreaEnvironmental Sciences, Materials Science
LocationUniversity of Southampton, UK
Eligibility/QualificationFirst-class honors degree in a related discipline (e.g., chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science)

Description

This research project will leverage the unique properties of MXenes, a newly discovered family of two-dimensional materials, to create advanced technologies for sensing and remediating toxic metals such as mercury, cadmium, and lead in marine environments. The focus will be on estuarine systems where metal concentrations are heightened, making it practical for deployment. Through fundamental studies and material optimization, you’ll contribute to developing prototypes for real-world application.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in materials synthesis, characterization, marine sensor deployment, and prototype engineering while being trained in various analytical techniques.
