Research Area:

The research will focus on manifold invariants in topology with potential links to Homotopy Theory and Mathematical Physics. There is also scope for exploring applications of topology in the sciences.

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, located in the heart of Amsterdam’s Zuidas business district, offers an excellent working environment.


Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A (prospective) MSc degree in Mathematics (or an equivalent qualification).
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with a background in algebraic topology.

Description:

The PhD position is part of the NWO ENW-XL project “Symmetry on the interface of topology and higher algebra.” The successful candidate will conduct research towards writing a PhD thesis and may also be involved in teaching tasks (approximately 15% of time). The department values diversity and welcomes applications from under-represented groups in academia, particularly women and individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds.
