Doctoral Scholarship in Gene Regulation in Hematopoiesis, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden

Study in Sweden

Summary

The Karolinska Institutet is offering a doctoral (PhD) student position focused on post-translational gene regulation within hematopoiesis. The research aims to understand the molecular, cellular, and immune pathways involved in malignant hematopoiesis, particularly in myeloid neoplasms.

LocationFlemingsberg campus, Stockholms län, Sweden
Eligibility/QualificationMaster’s degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, cell biology, or bioinformatics
Application DeadlineApril 20, 2026

Research Area

The Pedro Moura team is investigating:

  • Expansion efficiency of mutant hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) vs. healthy HSC
  • Restoration of production or function of differentiated myeloid lineage cells
  • Immune system’s failure to clear mutant cells

Eligibility/Qualification

General Requirements

  1. Master’s qualification (second-cycle/advanced).
  2. 240 credits with at least 60 at advanced level.
  3. Equivalent knowledge from international institutions.

Specific Requirements

  • Proficiency in English: Equivalent to English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

Description

The doctoral project will focus on the role of post-transcriptional gene regulation (PTGR) mechanisms in malignancy and hematopoiesis. The candidate will engage in mechanistic studies using advanced gene editing technologies and high-throughput omics methodologies to investigate the pathogenesis of myeloid neoplasms.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Required:

  • Strong academic background in relevant disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience with gene editing (CRISPR-Cas9, siRNA), flow cytometry, and high-throughput omics.

Desirable:

  • Experience in bioinformatics and programming (R, Python).
