Eligibility / Qualification
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field
- Background in Metabolic Engineering, Synthetic Biology, or Microbial Physiology
- Experience in molecular cloning, strain engineering, or fermentation (preferred)
- Skills in data analysis (Python, MATLAB) or metabolomics (advantageous)
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Strong motivation for interdisciplinary research in biotechnology
Job Description
Selected candidates will work under the supervision of Hannes Link and contribute to innovative research, including:
- Engineering E. coli strains for bioplastic (cyanophycin) production
- Designing thermo-switches to control microbial growth and production
- Applying CRISPR-based tools for strain optimization
- Using targeted and untargeted metabolomics to identify metabolic bottlenecks
- Developing temperature-controlled two-stage bioprocesses (1L scale)
- Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences
- Collaborating within an interdisciplinary microbiology and biotechnology team
