Eligibility / Qualification
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- PhD in a relevant field (preferably Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering)
- Degree must have been obtained within the last five years (or proof of completed examination)
- Demonstrated expertise in industrial decarbonisation
- Strong publication record in high-impact journals
- Proven ability to conduct independent research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Job Description
The selected fellow will:
- Conduct advanced research and publish in international journals and conferences
- Develop and secure research funding for hybrid solar thermal systems
- Design, model, optimise, and demonstrate renewable heating systems
- Support implementation of projects across the Western Cape and South Africa
- Monitor system performance, analyse data, and optimise efficiency
- Evaluate energy savings, cost reduction, and CO₂/GHG impact
- Co-supervise postgraduate students
- Contribute to training, awareness programs, and academic dissemination
- Assist in project coordination, industry collaboration, and administration
Fellowship Benefits
- Annual funding: R 400,000 (2026/27)
