Eligibility / Qualification

Applicants must:

  • Hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) before the start of the fellowship.
  • Be affiliated with an institution outside Finland.
  • Reside outside Finland during the application period.
  • Demonstrate an excellent record of scientific research and publications.
  • Have experience in international research collaboration and networking.
  • Possess excellent English language skills.
  • Secure a commitment from a JYU host researcher before applying.
  • Obtain a formal invitation letter from the host unit at JYU.

Host Requirements

  • The host must be affiliated with JYU throughout the entire visit.
  • A host may be a permanent employee, fixed-term researcher, or grant-funded researcher.
  • Each JYU researcher may host only one Visiting Fellow during 2027.

Job Description

The Visiting Fellow will:

  • Conduct collaborative research with the host research group.
  • Contribute to ongoing or new joint research projects.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts, reports, and publications.
  • Utilize JYU laboratories, research infrastructure, datasets, or field facilities.
  • Participate in planning future collaborative research initiatives and grant applications.
  • Engage with JYU’s international academic community.
  • Present research outcomes through seminars or other academic events when possible.

The programme aims to strengthen global research partnerships, enhance research impact, and promote international scientific cooperation.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Grant of €4,000 per month.
  • Funding available for either:
    • 1 month (30 calendar days), or
    • 2 months (which may be split into two separate periods if necessary).

Note: The fellowship is awarded as a grant and does not constitute employment with JYU. Travel and accommodation costs must be covered from the fellowship grant and arranged independently by the fellow.

Applications submitted without the mandatory host invitation letter will not be considered.
