Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in physics, engineering physics, or a closely related field (to be obtained by the time of appointment).
  • Strong interest in experimental physics, precision instrumentation, or control systems.
  • Experience with gravitational wave instrumentation, particularly in sensor development or seismic isolation, is advantageous.
  • Excellent study results and proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Teaching competencies aligned with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.

Job Description

As a doctoral scholarship holder, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and defending a PhD thesis in gravitational wave instrumentation.
  • Engaging in ongoing research involving the development of improved LVDT sensor designs.
  • Commissioning a MIGA-based local suspension system.
  • Contributing to the commissioning of ETpathfinder suspensions.
  • Reporting progress, presenting research at conferences, and aiming for publication.
  • Undertaking limited teaching and research support tasks within the Particle Physics group.
