Summary
The Molecular Biophysics group is seeking a PhD candidate to uncover how unique protein-based filters achieve extraordinary selectivity in cellular transport. This project, part of the NWO-funded “Holey trap” consortium, utilizes super-resolution microscopy (such as STED) to visualize these processes within mammalian and yeast cells.

Eligibility & Qualifications
- Degree: MSc in biophysics, molecular biology, biotechnology/bioengineering, or physics (optics).
- Experience: Strong experimental background in microscopy, molecular biophysics, or cell biology.
- Assets: Experience with Python programming and cell culture.
- Skills: Analytical and creative thinking, excellent communication, and the ability to work in an international, interdisciplinary team.
- Language: Fluent proficiency in English (written and oral).
Job Description
As a PhD candidate, you will:
- Use STED super-resolution microscopy to visualize cellular transport mechanisms.
- Investigate the role of unstructured proteins as filters.
- Work with mammalian and yeast cell cultures.
- Develop automated experimental workflows.
- Perform image and data analysis and scientific programming.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team from the Zernike Institute and TU Delft.
