A fantastic opportunity is available for a motivated researcher to join the Institute for Experimental Pathology at the University of Münster (UKM). This DFG-funded project (under the CRC TRR332 network) investigates how different neutrophil maturation states contribute to immunocoagulation and thromboinflammation during infection and sterile diseases.

🧬 Research Area & Job Description
Mechanisms of neutrophil heterogeneity and maturation in immunothrombosis and thromboinflammation during infection and sterile diseases. The laboratory of Carlos Silvestre-Roig focuses on understanding the mechanisms controlling neutrophil development and function, and how their dysregulation leads to acute and chronic diseases.
As a PhD student on this project, you will:
- Investigate the role of neutrophils in immunothrombosis and immunocoagulation during emergency granulopoiesis.
- Utilize state-of-the-art transcriptomics, spectral flow cytometry, and multiplexed antibody-based imaging.
- Work with mouse models of immunocoagulation upon bacterial infection and sterile-induced thromboinflammation.
- Gain expertise in advanced techniques including single-cell transcriptomics, Seahorse metabolic profiling, and confocal microscopy.
- Collaborate closely within a major international neutrophil research network in Germany.
🎓 Eligibility & Qualifications
- Education: A Master’s degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, or a closely related field is a strict prerequisite.
- Technical Skills: Experience in immunological techniques (FACS, immunohistochemistry, microscopy) is highly appreciated. Bioinformatic skills are desirable.
- Soft Skills: High motivation, independence, reliable structured working style, strong teamwork, and excellent communication skills.
- Language: Very good written and spoken English language skills.
- Health Requirement: Due to legal regulations (German Measles Protection Act), proof of full vaccination protection against measles is mandatory before starting.
