Eligibility / Qualification

  • Degree: PhD in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Core Expertise: Solid background in polymer and organic chemistry; hands-on experience in the synthesis and characterization of polymers is essential.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical skills, initiative, creativity, and a scientific attitude paired with an application-oriented mindset.
  • Language Requirement: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (prerequisite).
  • Teamwork: Strong team spirit and enthusiasm for working in an international, collaborative environment.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Researcher on this project, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and validating an AI-enhanced, solvent-based recycling process for complex plastic waste streams (e.g., multilayer packaging, e-waste).
  • Achieving selective recovery in high yield of high-value polymers (such as PET, PS, PC, ABS) at high purity, while minimizing solvent consumption and energy demand.
  • Conducting comprehensive chemical, structural, rheological, and mechanical characterization of recycled polymers to evaluate performance profiles.
  • Collaborating with industry partner Exergy, who will develop digital-twin and machine-learning tools to make the process adaptive and scalable.
  • Conducting research under the supervision of Prof. Željko Tomović in the Polymer Performance Materials group and the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS).
