Summary
IRB Barcelona is seeking an early-stage scientist to join the Innate Immune Biology laboratory led by Dr. Stefanie Wculek. The successful wet or hybrid-lab PhD candidate will be part of a team investigating the immunometabolism of neutrophils in health, obesity, and metabolic diseases. Eligibility / Qualification
Education (Must be completed by 30/09/2026):
- An official Spanish or European Higher Education Area (EHEA) university degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Immunology, or related fields totaling 300 credits (ECTS), of which at least 60 must correspond to the master level.
- OR: A degree from a non-Spanish university that gives access to doctoral studies in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Medicine, or related fields in Spain.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge in biomedicine, biosciences, and/or immunology.
- Previous experience in research environments.
- Creativity, motivation, and enthusiasm to work in a demanding research environment.
- Excellent teamwork abilities, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken). Â
(Optional but highly valued: Knowledge of innate immunity and immunometabolism, expertise in bioinformatic analysis, experience with laboratory mouse models, and training in flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques like CRISPR, or metabolic analysis).
Job Description
As a Predoctoral Researcher, your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing a research project in collaboration with other team members.
- Performing excellent research according to the high standards of the lab and IRB Barcelona under the PI’s supervision.
- Designing and testing biological hypotheses to advance your research project.
- Planning, performing, recording, and interpreting experiments informed by current state-of-the-art practices.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary research team, tapping into the expertise of fellow researchers and external collaborators.
- Contributing to lab projects, protocol maintenance, and laboratory resources.
- Critically analyzing results, participating in scientific discussions, and preparing scientific communications (seminars and conferences).
