Research Area Machine Learning, specifically focusing on Reinforcement Learning (RL), Model Predictive Control (MPC), deep learning, state-space models, and probabilistic modeling. Particular interest is given to settings where the cost or reward function is non-ergodic.
Robust reinforcement learning and model predictive control (MPC) for non-ergodic environments.
Eligibility / Qualification
- Education: A PhD degree in machine learning, control, signal processing, or another closely relevant area (must be obtained by the time of the employment decision). Priority is given to applicants who completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
- Experience: Strong interest and experience in developing new methods in RL and/or MPC.
- Skills: Good working knowledge of programming (preferably in Python).
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical material effectively in oral and written English.
- Bonus: Publications at leading conferences in machine learning and/or leading journals in control engineering are highly advantageous. Experience working with companies is also a plus.
Job Description
- Develop, analyze, and apply new generally applicable algorithms and models in robust reinforcement learning and deterministic/stochastic MPC formulations.
- Collaborate internationally, with joint supervision by Assistant Professor Dominik Baumann (Aalto University) and Assistant Professor Johannes Köhler (Imperial College London) for MPC aspects.
- Work independently and collaboratively to solve complex problems with a structured and creative approach.
- The position may include teaching duties of up to 20%, depending on availability and interest (teaching can be done in Swedish or English).
