Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Academic Degree: A two-year Master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, Systems & Control, or a closely related field.
  • Background Knowledge: A strong background in at least one of the following areas:
    • Systems and Control
    • Optimization / Operations Research
    • Game Theory and Learning in Games
    • Multi-agent Systems, Reinforcement Learning, or Artificial Intelligence
    • Algorithms / Applied Mathematics
    • (Note: Power Systems or Electricity Markets background is advantageous but not a hard requirement).
  • Skills: Strong analytical, mathematical, and programming capabilities, with fluency in written and spoken English.

Scholarship Description

  • Scope of Work: The PhD candidate will investigate how automated and AI-driven trading agents interact in electricity markets, characterize emerging equilibria and learning dynamics, and formulate market design solutions that enhance grid reliability and economic efficiency.
  • Employment Conditions: The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
  • Work Environment: You will be integrated into DTU Compute’s international and collaborative research environment with access to modern computational resources, international research stays, and university pedagogical training.
