Ruhr University Bochum is inviting applications for a full-time Research Associate/Postdoctoral Researcher position at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry II. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research combining quantum chemistry, machine learning, chemical data science, organometallic chemistry, and homogeneous catalysis.

Eligibility and Qualifications
Applicants should have a completed university degree and preferably a PhD in Chemistry. Candidates from related disciplines, including Data Science or Computer Science, may also apply if they can demonstrate strong knowledge of chemistry.
- Practical experience with quantum-chemical calculations and common tools such as ORCA, Multiwfn, and AIM
- Experience in machine learning and chemistry-focused data science
- Python programming skills and practical knowledge of libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, Scikit-learn, RDKit, and PyTorch
- Strong theoretical knowledge of quantum chemistry, machine learning, and molecular chemistry
- Experience in managing research projects
- Experience publishing and presenting scientific results
- Experience teaching and supervising students or interns
- Fluent spoken and written English
- German is advantageous but not mandatory
- Experience in homogeneous catalysis is desirable but not required
- Experience installing and maintaining high-performance computing clusters is desirable but not required
- Motivation for interdisciplinary research and team-oriented work
Job Description
- Perform quantum-chemical calculations to investigate reaction mechanisms and bonding situations and extract physicochemical molecular properties
- Develop and validate models for structure-activity relationships and the prediction of molecular properties and reactivities
- Use statistical methods to analyse chemical data and visualise results
- Collaborate with laboratory scientists to support and validate experimental data collection
- Lead research projects, supervise students, and prepare reports and grant proposals
- Prepare scientific results for publication and assist students with manuscripts
- Supervise student theses and support teaching in Data Science and Machine Learning
- Help develop and deliver new student courses in Data Science and Machine Learning
