About the Research Area
The position is based in the work group for Chemical Sensing and Rapid Analysis at the Department of Physical Chemistry. The group is at the forefront of designing and utilizing molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) and biomimetic sensing systems. By combining fundamental materials research with analytical science and biology-inspired concepts, the group bridges fundamental chemistry with commercial and applied diagnostic solutions. Instrumentation available includes nanomicroscopic tools, electrochemical techniques, mass-sensitive measuring systems, and molecular spectroscopy.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
- Research Leadership: Build an independent research profile in sensing and assay formats utilizing MIP; participate actively in research projects on solid-phase synthesized MIP.
- Publications & Funding: Publish scientific findings in top peer-reviewed international journals, present at conferences, and prepare grant proposals to secure third-party funding.
- Teaching: Independently deliver university courses and practicals within the scope of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Administration & Quality Assurance: Support academic administration, participate in quality assurance, and contribute to the day-to-day operations of the research group.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
- Completed Doctoral/PhD degree in Chemistry.
- Demonstrated record of an outstanding doctoral dissertation.
- Proven expertise and theoretical/practical knowledge in Chemical Sensing.
- Excellent command of the English language (minimum C1 level).
Target Criteria & Assets
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in MIP synthesis and characterization.
- Experience in research project management and supervising junior staff/students.
- Didactic skills and experience in e-learning platforms.
- Proficiency in relevant IT tools (data evaluation software, Python, standard office suites).
- Experience in mass-sensitive measurements (nice-to-have).
- Basic knowledge of the German language.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
