Summary
Applications are invited for postdoctoral Flatiron Research Fellowships (FRF) at the Center for Computational Mathematics (CCM), a division of the Flatiron Institute within the Simons Foundation. The Flatiron Institute is dedicated to advancing scientific research through computational methods. CCM, with approximately 50 members, focuses on developing next-generation simulation and analysis methods, making them accessible to the scientific community. This interdisciplinary environment fosters collaboration and software development.
Designation
Postdoctoral Flatiron Research Fellow (FRF)
Research Areas
We seek applicants across a range of active research areas:
- Numerical Analysis: Especially partial differential equations, integral equations, fast algorithms, spectral and high-order methods.
- Machine Learning: Including optimization, learning theory, probabilistic modeling, deep learning, high-dimensional data analysis, and scientific applications.
- Statistical Methodology: Modeling and inference.
- Computational Biophysics and Imaging: Such as cryo-electron microscopy, molecular dynamics, and structural biology.
- High Performance Computing: And open-source software libraries.
Joint positions with other Flatiron Institute centers (Astrophysics, Biology, Quantum Physics, Neuroscience, and Catalysis) are also possible.
Location
New York City, NY, USA (Onsite position with one day per week remote work allowed. Subsidized housing may be available.)
Eligibility/Qualification
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field. The fellowships are postdoctoral positions.
Job Description
Flatiron Research Fellows are initially appointed for two years, with a potential renewal for a third year based on performance. Fellows will be mentored by CCM research scientists and are encouraged to:
- Carry out an independent research program.
- Collaborate with other Flatiron Institute centers and Simons Foundation initiatives.
- Participate in the institute’s vibrant activities, including seminars, tutorials, workshops, and conferences.
- Mentor students through the summer internship program.
- Disseminate research results through scientific publications, conferences/seminars, and potentially open-source software production.
Fellows receive a generous travel and research budget and have access to the institute’s powerful scientific computing resources.
How to Apply
Applicants should indicate in their research statement if they believe a joint position with another center would be appropriate, and submit an application to both centers if so.
