About the Research Project
While theoretical models of quantum computing primarily revolve around qubits, physical systems offer alternate modalities—most prominently, bosonic quantum computing. Despite remarkable experimental progress in bosonic systems, theoretical computer science aspects remain largely unexplored.
This postdoctoral position is part of the Quantera consortium Batir-le-chat, an international collaboration connecting researchers across the Netherlands, Germany, and France to investigate theoretical foundations of bosonic quantum computing.
Job Description
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, your primary tasks and responsibilities will involve:
- Conducting advanced research on property testing, learning theory, and system characterisation tailored to bosonic quantum systems.
- Developing methodologies for the classical simulation of bosonic quantum computation.
- Collaborating actively with international partners within the Quantera consortium Batir-le-chat.
- Presenting research results at leading international conferences and publishing findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- A PhD (completed or near completion) in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research expertise in quantum computing and quantum information processing.
- Strong interest or proven background in bosonic quantum computing, characterisation, property testing, or learning theory.
- A proven track record of research talent, evidenced by publications in recognized journals or conferences.
- Excellent academic writing and presentation skills.
- Full professional proficiency in English (oral and written).
Compensation & Benefits
The appointment follows the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres (CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen):
- Gross Monthly Salary: Ranging from €4,374 to €5,758 depending on previous relevant work experience.
- Allowances: 8% holiday allowance and an 8.33% year-end bonus.
- Duration: 1 year initial contract, extendable by mutual agreement for an additional 1.5 years (up to 2.5 years total).
- Work Environment: Flexible working hours, excellent research infrastructure, and strong international networking at Amsterdam Science Park.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their application materials online. Your application package must include:
- A detailed curriculum vitae (CV).
- A comprehensive motivation letter.
- A research statement outlining your academic interests and relevant background.
- Contact information (including email addresses) for at least three scientists willing to provide reference letters.
