Summary
The Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a three-year position. This project focuses on developing analytical methods to identify and quantify gangliosides and glucosylsphingosine to analyze post-mortem brain samples and stem cell-derived brain cells from patients with Parkinson’s Disease.
| Designation | Postdoc |
| Research Area | Lipidomics, Analytical Chemistry, Neurodegenerative Diseases |
| Location | Copenhagen, Denmark |
| Employment Type | Full-time (37 hours per week), Fixed-term (3 years) |
| Application Deadline | November 15, 2026 |
Research Area
The project is anchored in the Galvagnion group in collaboration with the Lipidomics Core Facility at the Danish Cancer Institute (DCI). The research aims to understand the role of lipid homeostasis dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The interdisciplinary work involves identifying lipid changes and using biophysical methods to understand how these changes influence protein-membrane interactions and protein aggregation.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and optimizing new LC-MS methods to identify and quantify gangliosides and glucosyl/galactosyl sphingosine.
- Combining new methods with existing protocols at the DCI Lipidomics Core Facility.
- Analyzing biological materials including post-mortem brain homogenates, stem cell-derived brain cells, and isolated aggregates.
- Collaborating with an international network of neuroscientists, biologists, and biophysicists.
- Troubleshooting analytical experiments and managing lipid extraction processes.
Eligibility/Qualification
Essential Requirements:
- A PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, molecular life sciences, or a related field.
- Practical experience with LC-MS-based analysis of small molecules (lipids, metabolites, etc.).
- Proven experience in developing and optimizing LC-MS methods.
- Experience working with biological samples and standard biochemical preparation methods.
- Excellent written and spoken English with strong communication skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Specific expertise in lipidomics or MS-based lipid analysis.
- Experience with subcellular fractions or complex tissue samples.
- Knowledge of neurodegeneration, Parkinson’s disease, or protein amyloid aggregation.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online in English and include the following documents in PDF format:
- A motivated letter of application (maximum one page).
- A detailed CV including education, research experience, and relevant skills.
- Certified copies of PhD and Master of Science certificates.
- A complete list of publications.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews in week 49 and in-person interviews in week 51.
