Job Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Andrew R. Marks at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Associate Research Scientist to lead research projects investigating the ryanodine receptor (RyR) calcium channel. This role focuses on understanding the role of RyR in normal and pathological physiology, specifically within cardiac and brain function, using unique animal models and advanced biochemical techniques.
| Designation | Associate Research Scientist |
| Research Area | Physiology and Cellular Biophysics |
| Location | Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, NY |
| Salary Range | $79,327 – $79,327 |
Research Area
The research focuses on calcium signaling and the ryanodine receptor (RyR). The lab translates fundamental discoveries regarding protein-protein interactions and intracellular calcium handling into clinical applications, specifically targeting heart failure and neurological conditions.
Eligibility & Qualification
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: PhD or MD/PhD degree.
- Experience: Proven expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, calcium signaling, and protein purification.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrophysiology and/or animal studies (including heart failure models).
- Soft Skills: Outstanding publications, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and a robust work ethic.
- Leadership: Ability to work independently and oversee junior research staff.
Job Description
The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for the following duties:
- Leading projects investigating RyR in pathophysiology using unique animal models.
- Studying cardiac and brain physiology through echocardiography, ECGs, and LTP measurements.
- Investigating protein biochemistry, purification, and analyzing protein-protein interactions.
- Studying intracellular calcium handling in isolated cells and performing single-channel analysis of RyR.
- Overseeing the work of junior research staff and implementing laboratory protocols.
- Collaborating on translating fundamental research into ongoing clinical trials.
