Designation

PhD Candidate / Research Associate in Nutritional Crop Physiology (f/m/d, E13 TV-L, 65%)

Research Area

The research focuses on Nutritional Crop Physiology, Molecular Plant Physiology, and Agronomy. It investigates the effects of weather and weather extremes (complex abiotic stress combinations) on crop yield and yield stability, integrating statistical climate models, transcriptomics, and multi-omics data.

Location

The primary working environment will be at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, with close interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Scholarship / Position Description

Within the GreenRobust Cluster of Excellence, the successful candidate will conduct research using long-term field trials and greenhouse setups to study crop physiological responses to abiotic stresses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Computational analysis of existing long-term weather and crop growth data related to extreme events, and linking them to yield variations.
  • Application of statistical modeling and data integration techniques.
  • Supervision and execution of both greenhouse and field experiments under combined abiotic stress conditions.
  • Transcriptomic analysis (including single-cell approaches) on field-sampled tissues during sensitive crop phases.
  • Analytical assessment of growth parameters, nutrients, metabolites, and gene expression profiles.
  • Integration of multi-omics datasets using advanced statistical methods.
  • Preparation of scientific publications, project progress reports, and presenting results at national and international conferences.

Eligibility / Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent Diploma) in biology, plant sciences, agricultural sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in agronomy, plant physiology, and statistics.
  • Hands-on experience with greenhouse or field trials, combined with laboratory experience in molecular biology methods or analytical chemistry.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and German.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should compile their application documents into a single PDF file, including:

  • A comprehensive motivation letter outlining research interests
  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Academic degree certificates and transcripts
  • Contact details of two academic references

Please submit your application via email directly to Prof. Uwe Ludewig at u.ludewig@uni-hohenheim.de or through the official application portal. For informal inquiries, you may contact Prof. Uwe Ludewig via telephone at +49 711 459 22344.

Last Date for Apply
