About- Established in 2019, the Goel laboratory at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia is actively recruiting a postdoctoral scientist. The successful candidate will play a central role in our studies of therapy-induced senescence (TIS) in cancer. Dr Shom Goel is a practising clinical oncologist and laboratory scientist with expertise in cell cycle biology, cellular senescence, and cancer drug development. He has recently been awarded Australia’s prestigious Snow Medical Fellowship, which will provide his team with $8 million to study TIS from 2022-2030.

New research projects in the Goel lab include: (i) identifying novel senolytics and agents to prevent senescence escape in cancer; (ii) exploring parallels between tumour dormancy and TIS; (iii) understanding the significance of heterogeneity amongst senescent cancer cells; (iv) dissecting the contribution of key tumour suppressor proteins to the TIS Phenotype in cancers. We employ a wide range of techniques including transgenic mouse modelling, high-throughput compound screening, CRISPR Cas9 screens, epigenomics, and single cell transcriptomics. Applicants must have a strong grounding in cancer biology. It is preferable that they also have experience in study of cell cycle biology, cancer epigenetics, or tumour suppressor proteins.
