PhD Student/Postdoc Position: The Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology (research group of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Leppek) at the Faculty of Medicine of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is inviting applications for a 3-year PhD student or Postdoc position in the field of immunomodulation of mRNA transport and local translation in microglia using bioactive RNAs.
Designation: PhD Student (65% TV-L E13) or Postdoc (100% TV-L E13) (m/fd; 3 years)
Research Area: Immunobiochemistry
Location: Bonn, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related field. Strong background in RNA biochemistry is required. Experience or knowledge with RNA structure probing, ribosome-associated regulation, yeast genetics, or data science is desirable but not mandatory. The candidate should be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, work well independently and as part of a team, value creativity and collaboration, and be willing to travel internationally regularly.
Job Description:
PhD Student/Postdoc Position in Immunobiochemistry Research Group
The selected candidate will join the Leppek lab and contribute to a collaborative project funded by the Human Frontier Science Program. The project aims to utilize regulatory photoswitchable RNA tools to control local mRNA transport and translation in microglia, with potential applications in basic science and RNA therapeutics. The work will involve a combination of RNA biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology assays, mRNA translation techniques, RNA structure probing, RNA target switch design, and functional analysis in cultured cells and primary microglia. The project will include collaborations with international research groups to enhance the multidisciplinary approach.
How to Apply: Interested and motivated candidates should send their applications via email to Dr. Kathrin Leppek (kleppekiuni-bonn.de). The application should include a cover letter, CV, two reference contacts, and a list of grades. The ideal starting date is November 1, 2023, and applications will be considered on a rolling basis until August 31, 2023.
Last Date for Apply: August 31, 2023
