Master’s or PhD Student: Join the dynamic team at Université de Montréal’s Institut de recherche de Montréal en biologie végétale and contribute to cutting-edge research in applied environmental microbiology. We are seeking a dedicated Master’s or PhD student to lead a research project focused on optimizing organic matter transformation during on-site composting. By characterizing and modulating the active microbiota, you will work towards increasing organic residue bioconversion efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas production. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary project, collaborate with over twenty partners, and work in the beautiful environment of the Montreal Botanical Garden.

Location: Institut de recherche de Montreal en biologie végétale, Montreal Botanical Garden, Montreal, Canada

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Admission to Université de Montreal’s Department of Biological Sciences under the supervision of Joan Laur
  • Funding for 2 years for M.Sc. students ($18.5k/year) and 4 years for PhD students ($23k/year)
  • Project start date: January 2024
  • All applications will be considered, and previous experience in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry is an asset.

Master’s or PhD Student in Applied Environmental Microbiology

As a Master’s or PhD student in applied environmental microbiology, you will:

  • Lead a research project focused on optimizing organic matter transformation during on-site composting.
  • Characterize and modulate the active microbiota to increase bioconversion efficiency of organic residues.
  • Contribute to reducing greenhouse gas production in the composting process.
  • Collaborate with a large interdisciplinary project team and numerous partners in the field.
  • Access training and networking opportunities in an idyllic working environment at the Montreal Botanical Garden.
