Postdoc/PhD Positions in Functional Materials: The Theory of Magnetic Materials research group at the Institute of Materials Science, Technische Universität Darmstadt, is currently accepting applications for Postdoctoral and PhD positions [m/f/d] in the field of inverse design of functional materials. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work on cutting-edge research related to the design and development of advanced materials using machine learning and computational techniques.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD/Master’s degree in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
  • Practical experience in Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and many-body physics is a plus.
  • Proficiency in coding using at least one of Python, C/C++, and Fortran.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented personality with good interpersonal skills for collaboration in an international, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English; knowledge of German is a strong plus.

Job Description:

Postdoc/PhD Positions in Inverse Design of Functional Materials

  • Conduct research on the inverse design of functional materials, with a focus on machine learning techniques.
  • Explore various aspects of inverse design, including high-throughput combinatorial screening, Bayesian optimization, adaptive design, and generative deep learning.
  • Investigate topics such as designing permanent magnets, magnetic shape memory alloys, CALPHAD phase diagram construction, quantum computation, and research data management.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic and interdisciplinary research team.
  • Engage in independent problem-solving and contribute to ongoing projects.
  • Contribute to the development of advanced materials with desired properties.
