Research Fellow at University of Birmingham: The University of Birmingham’s School of Chemistry, within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for a Royal Society-funded postdoctoral position. The position involves research in the design and synthesis of main-group compounds for small-molecule activation and catalysis.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Chemistry (or near completion)
- Expertise in air-sensitive synthetic chemistry (using Schlenk-lines and gloveboxes) is essential
- Desirable: Expertise in catalysis and/or working with gaseous reagents
Job Description: The Research Fellow will be responsible for:
- Performing synthetic main-group chemistry in the laboratory, focusing on novel main-group compounds and assessing their utility in catalysis.
- Characterizing the structure and photophysical properties of molecules using NMR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.
- Designing, performing, and interpreting experiments to achieve project goals, consistent with high-quality research standards.
- Applying knowledge to develop new intellectual understanding, models, techniques, and methods.
- Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and storing research data for publication and open-data requirements.
- Drafting academic publications, contributing to research funding bids, review articles, and public engagement literature.
- Presenting research outputs effectively in various formats and collaborating with potential partners.
- Supervising students on project-related research and providing guidance to PhD and Master’s students.
- Ensuring compliance with safety policies, undertaking required training, and supporting the day-to-day running of the research group.
- Promoting equality, valuing diversity, and fostering an inclusive working culture.
