Doctoral Candidate / Research Fellow: The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences is offering a doctoral candidate/research fellow position affiliated with the project “Imaging Ageing Endothelium at the Nanoscale” (ImAgE-D) funded by the EU Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) program “Doctoral Networks.” This position focuses on high-resolution, correlative imaging of endothelial cells in the context of ageing and is part of the ImAge-D consortium that aims to understand changes in vascular and lymphatic endothelium during ageing. The successful candidate will work in the Department of Biophysical Microstructures and conduct research in the field of biophysics.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in biophysics, biological sciences, or chemistry.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to meet the eligibility requirements for the faculty’s PhD program.
  • Willingness to undertake transnational mobility if required.
  • Be within the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of your research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
  • Documented knowledge of English meeting the admission requirements.

Job Description:

Doctoral Candidate / Research Fellow – Imaging Ageing Endothelium at the Nanoscale (ImAgE-D)

  • Work on the research topic: “High-resolution, correlative imaging of endothelial cells in the niche” within the ImAgE-D project.
  • Utilize high-resolution microscopy methods to study the morphology of brain, bone-marrow, and liver endothelial cells in vitro and in situ.
  • Collaborate with UiT and UniBie to access new optical tools that overcome spatial resolution limitations.
  • Employ atomic force microscopy (AFM) to perform real-time measurements of living cells with nano resolution.
  • Investigate the interaction of drugs with cell morphology and biomechanics and the effects on fenestrations.
  • Study the role of age and gender in these processes.
  • Engage in research training towards a doctorate degree, with a study period beginning upon employment.
