Research Manager Synthetic Organic Chemistry: The Feringa group, part of the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry at the University of Groningen, is seeking a Research Manager in Synthetic Organic Chemistry to support Prof. Ben Feringa in group management and various responsibilities. The position involves guiding PhD students, coordinating external collaborations, contributing to outreach activities, managing facilities, and more.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD degree in chemistry or a related field
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus
  • Experience in supervising BSc/MSc/PhD students
  • Proactive attitude and strong communication skills

Job Description:

Research Manager Synthetic Organic Chemistry (1.0 FTE) (V23.0834)

As a Research Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing guidance and support to PhD students in professional development, writing, presenting, planning, teaching, and administration.
  • Facilitating group management, coordinating teaching activities, and fostering a socially safe working environment.
  • Coordinating external collaborations and acting as a liaison for the Advanced Research Center CBBC.
  • Contributing to outreach activities, promoting the group’s research, and managing online presence.
  • Organizing the hiring process for new group members, including writing vacancy texts, candidate selection, and interviews.
  • Managing facilities, planning lab and office occupancy, ensuring safety, and coordinating the group’s move to the new Feringa Building in June 2024.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Salary based on qualifications and experience (€3,877 to €5,090 gross per month, salary scale 10).
  • Excellent secondary terms of employment.
  • Full-time position.
  • Holiday allowance (8% gross annual income) and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • 232 holiday hours per calendar year for full-time employment.
  • Participation in a pension scheme for employees.
  • Personal budget of €1,000 per year for additional training and career activities.
  • Temporary appointment for 12 months with a possibility of extension.
