Description: The Laboratory of Protein Structure, Function, and Plasticity, under the leadership of Dr. Lucía B. Chemes, is focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms governing cellular proliferation, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. With a multidisciplinary approach encompassing molecular biology, cellular biology, structural biology, and bioinformatics, the group investigates the roles of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and short linear motifs (SLiMs) in these processes.
Projects Overview:
- Regulatory Networks of the Cell Cycle Mediated by SLiMs
- Investigating novel regulators of the cell cycle and cellular differentiation through phage display techniques.
- Validating interactions and functional roles using molecular and cellular assays.
- Function and Evolution of IDPs: Role in Viral Pathogenesis
- Studying the role of IDPs in viral hijacking, focusing on the interaction between the viral protein E1A of Adenovirus and the cell cycle regulator Retinoblastoma (Rb).
- Analyzing natural and engineered variants to understand evolutionary and functional aspects.
- Design of Inhibitors based on IDPs and SLiMs
- Screening large datasets to identify potential inhibitors targeting SLiM-mediated interactions.
- Designing and testing inhibitors in vitro and in cellular models for therapeutic applications.
How to Apply: Interested candidates are required to send a complete CV and a cover letter to lchemes@iib.unsam.edu.ar.
