Doctoral Position in Chemical Biology: The University of Marburg is seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher to join the research group led by Prof. Dr. O. Vázquez within the Department of Chemistry. This part-time position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in innovative research on chemical biology, focusing on the synthesis of photosensitive molecules and the manipulation of chloroplasts through reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, or Biochemistry.
  • Strong focus on multistep organic synthesis, particularly in dye chemistry (BODIPYs and rhodamines).
  • Solid theoretical and practical background in organic chemistry and photochemistry.
  • Experience with biological techniques and a keen interest in understanding biological processes at the atomic level.
  • Self-driven, passionate team player with a disposition towards scientific qualification (e.g., a doctorate in chemical biology).

Job Description:

  • Conduct independent scientific research and development in the synthesis of chemical-biological tools for generating ROS in chloroplasts.
  • Design and implement multistep organic synthesis projects and conduct photochemical characterization (e.g., quantum yields and ROS quantification).
  • Engage in cell-based experiments, microscopy, and proteomics.
  • Supervise Bachelor and Master students and effectively communicate scientific findings in an international environment.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary training and collaborative activities amongst research groups involved in the LOEWE project.
