Doctoral Position in Linguistics : The University of Konstanz is inviting applications for a part-time doctoral position (65%, E 13 TV-L) focused on the language acquisition of Catalan. The role is part of the newly granted SFB 1760 project analyzing the role of silence and noise in linguistic signals. This position is available from April 1, 2026, until December 2029.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Excellent MA/MSc degree in Language Acquisition, Multilingualism, Linguistics, Speech & Language Therapy, or a related field.
  • Research interest in child language acquisition.
  • Some experience working with preschool or school-age children.
  • Native or near-native speaker of Catalan; very good proficiency in English, ideally with knowledge of German.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics is desirable.
  • Experience in child corpora and language acquisition experiments is desirable.

Description

The doctoral position will focus on the project “C03: Acquisition of Expletive Elements,” which investigates the acquisition of expletive definite articles and expletive negation in Catalan, German, and Greek children. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing corpus data
  • Designing and implementing comprehension and production experiments
  • Contributing to SFB research
  • Presenting research findings at conferences
  • Engaging in transfer activities at the Centre for Multilingualism
