Eligibility

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, or a related field.
  • Possess a strong foundation in inorganic materials synthesis.
  • Demonstrate high motivation, curiosity, and a self-driven attitude, with enthusiasm for helping establish a new laboratory and a collaborative group culture.
  • Have excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Be willing to work in an international and diverse team.

Note: Experience in inorganic/solid-state synthesis, thin-film deposition, hydrothermal/solvothermal synthesis, scanning probe microscopy, electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, or electrical transport measurements is highly advantageous but not strictly required.

Scholarship Description

The successful candidate will work on developing topochemical modifications of functional layered perovskites, primarily using thin films, single crystals, and nanoparticles. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing layered oxide precursors using methods like pulsed-laser deposition, floating zone, or hydrothermal synthesis.
  • Developing post-growth topochemical reactions (e.g., ion exchange, intercalation, redox reactions) using solution-based and controlled-atmosphere methods.
  • Tracking changes in composition, structure, and functional properties using techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning-probe microscopy, magnetometry, and large-scale facility experiments.
  • Presenting findings at scientific conferences and publishing research work.
